detest the overused and often misused saying of, 'Nothing to lose'. The only people with nothing to lose in the world are those who are in control. Nothing to lose is often applied to a man or woman on their last legs, making a final stand against oppression with nothing to lose.
They don't have nothing to lose: they're already losing! They have everything to gain.
It's also misused in sports, when a team's behind and losing and the commentators will say, 'They're going for it here, with nothing to lose'. I'm pretty sure they've got everything to gain by going for it and pushing the tempo, and that they're already losing the game.
Nothing to lose only really applies to big business, who have nothing to lose.
A casino lets you play cause they have nothing to lose.
A bank lends you money cause they have nothing to lose.
A rebel fighting for what they believe in has their rights, life, and land to lose. But, they also have everything to gain by standing up for what they believe in.
